On 13th December 1795, the second largest meteorite ever to fall on England – weighing 56 pounds – fell on the grounds of The Wold Cottage, Wold Newton, East Yorkshire. The owner of Wold Cottage, Mr Edward Topham erected a monument to the falling of “The Atmospherical Stone”, depicted in this engraving of The Wold Cottage from 1818
