Carte De Visite
The carte de visite is a type of small photograph popular between the 1860s – 1890s, usually made of an albumen print photograph mounted on a thicker paper card. Each Carte de Visite is usually the size of a visiting card (2.5″ x 4″), and were traded among friends and visitors. Albums for the collection and display of cards became a common fixture in Victorian parlors. By the 1890s, cartes de visite were supplanted by the similar, but larger Cabinet Cards.
