Fabulous piece of political ephemera relating to corruption at the Hastings and St Leonards Constituency during the UK General Election of 1841 (where Robert Peel’s Conservatives took control of the House of Commons).

"A Fudge Candidate
To the electors of Hastings and St Leonards
There is no such name as Wm. Montague Surtes to be found in any London directory; nor is there any no 107, Portland Place, there being only 73 Houses.
An Elector.
Hastings, May 8th 1841"

A really lovely item
