A Beautifully Inscribed 19th-Century Family Bible — A Wedding Gift Presented in 1869
This handsome 1869 Taylor Family Bible carries a touching piece of family history. It was presented to Frederick Taylor by “Mrs Roylance” on 14th January 1869 - just three months before his marriage to Elizabeth Jane Roylance in April of that same year. Almost certainly his future mother-in-law, Mrs Roylance’s handwritten dedication has survived as a warm reminder of Victorian family bonds and the tradition of gifting a Bible to mark the start of married life.
The volume itself is a classic mid-Victorian family Bible, produced in an era when such books formed the centrepiece of the home - used not only for worship, but also for carefully recording generations of births, marriages and deaths.
Features
- Original presentation inscription dated 14 January 1869
